What about the IBM Model M (or its latter-day successors from unicomp / pckeyboard.com) ? Timelessly cool. Give me one of those clicking babes (solid babes, with just the right curvature) any day. I get a good 20 wpm higher on mine than any other keyboard I've ever used (Though I'd be willing to believe some cherry keyboards might approach them). The quality of the key mechanisms themselves is more important than anything else (as is learning to type properly! It's like the piano! wrists straight, higher than keyboard!). Shrug.
